JOB TITLE: ENGINE ROOM SUPERVISOR
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Prepare Engine Room Plant and Systems for start-up, including vessel utility systems sourced from the Engine Room.
- Start and Monitor Engine Room Plant and Systems, including vessel utility systems sourced from the Engine Room.
- Prepare and shut down the engine Plant and Systems, including vessel utility systems sourced from the Engine Room
- Isolate and reinstate the Engine Room Plant and Maintenance, including vessel utility systems sourced from the engine room.
- Establish effective relationships with colleagues and subordinates.
- Establish the scope of work clearly (briefings, toolbox talks, presentations.)
- Use of communication skills shows leadership (oral, teambuilding, recording, noting, handover, and analysis).
- Objective and consistent in the assessment of subordinates using a competence assessment system.
- Positive action is taken to limit escalation and maintain control using applied policies, procedures, or initiatives.
- Sample and check that controlled discharges are within prescribed limits from the area of
- responsibility to the environment.
- Provide any additional duties as required by the OIM/Unit Spt and /or HOD to maintain the safe and efficient running of the Unit.
- Supervises and directs first-line maintenance activities for engine rooms and utilities.
- Directs and supervises the performance of preventive maintenance and repairs, downtime, isolation, and scheduled maintenance according to CMMS.
- Ensures that all maintenance and maintenance-related activities are performed to the highest standards.
- Monitors the accuracy of test and inspection procedures required in the planned maintenance system.
- Supervises all relevant information or records and ensures reports are maintained.
- Ensures strict adherence to company security procedures and policies.
- Ensures engine room teammates are knowledgeable about the safety requirements, such as work permit systems, operating and emergency procedures, and business policy and instructions, and that you set an example for others by being conversant with the facility's plant and machinery and ensuring its safe operation and maintenance.
- The Engine Room Team monitors reports, deviations on safety and production-critical equipment, and maintenance management systems on a weekly basis.
- Supervises the performance of diagnostic and fault-finding tests on all vessel equipment, making sure that any necessary repairs are done as soon as possible. Make certain that essential spares are on hand and that any inconsistencies are resolved.
- Ensure that all work is completed in compliance with the facility's standards, guidelines, and management processes.
- Verifies that all data submitted into Maximo, reports, logs, and maintenance records is correct and complies with safety and facility management systems
- Makes certain that every boiler system is kept up to date so that the internal boiler water quality
- satisfies the requirements set out by the suppliers.
- opens the daily work permit for the operations of the engine room.
- Ensures scheduled preventative and corrective maintenance are carried out as planned.
- Supervises the management and operation of steam production from the deck-mounted boiler as well as the main boiler.
- Complete requirements necessary for all maintenance operational work operations, completing and keeping up with all maintenance engineering paperwork.
- Aids in Engineering Maintenance to attain and preserve technical and operational integrity.
- Reports all engine room activities to the Superintendent.
Essential qualifications & skills:
- Certificate of Competency, Class 2, Unlimited Marine Engineering
- Marine Engine Room valid STCW certificates.
- Marine engineer background, boiler, and steam qualifications (preferable VLCC or tanker experience)
- Rotating Equipment Experience, including Cargo offloading pumps & turbines.
- Ability to utilize interpersonal skills in resolving issues.
- Demonstrated ability to work on own initiative.
- Good Interpersonal skills
