JOB TITLE: Technical Specialist/Assessor - Laboratory

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Develop and deliver outstanding Laboratory Competency assessment and training activities that will engage both chemical engineers and laboratory technicians within the gas sector, to impact their laboratory and chemist technical knowledge, via the use of classroom and on-job assessment/coaching sessions.
  • Responsible to meet the client expectation, student learning objectives and contribute to the program's overall performance targets. Responsible for delivering high-quality competency programs to client, ensuring that they are equipped with the necessary skills and knowledge allowing them to carry out the laboratory operations standalone. 
  • Supervise the laboratory sampling and analysis process both in the field for taking samples and in laboratory environment based on ASTM or BS. Ensure laboratory equipment and analyzers specifications meet with client equipment specifications, provide expertise in laboratory and chemical usage areas.
  • Experience in onshore gas processing, including safety standards in laboratory environment. Able to provide improvement recommendations from technical and safety perspective, for chemical injection systems in gas process facility.
  • Design and deliver high-quality gas facility laboratory analysis competency programs tailored to the unique needs of the gas industry.
  • Familiar with the preparation of laboratory courses in gas facilities and assessments, to be delivered to laboratory and operation personnel as relevant.
  • Ensure that the laboratory training and assessment activities align with industry-specific standards and equip students with the necessary skills and knowledge for success in the gas sector.
  • Interfacing with TMS and CMS systems – recording assessment results, feedback reporting, etc.
  • Development of competency criteria and role profiles relevant to area of expertise
  • Conduct comprehensive assessments to evaluate student progress and provide constructive feedback.
  • Strong HSE awareness and responsible for team compliance with Petrofac life-saving rules This includes performing risk assessment and identifying appropriate mitigation strategies to ensure safe operations.
  • Responsible for driving continuous improvement in HSE standards to build a proactive safety culture within the laboratory team.
  • Have a full awareness of the Company Code of Conduct and Business Ethics
  • Interact with Quality Assurance for quality issues; strictly ensure compliance with Company’s ISO Quality procedures.   
  • Working knowledge of laboratory discipline engineering codes and standards necessary to operate and maintain assets on gas processing field.
  • Extensive knowledge of managing malfunctions and performing troubleshooting on related systems and laboratory equipment.
  • Compile and distribute comprehensive training & assessment reports, as well as laboratory results reports.
  • Report and assist in the investigation of accidents and incidents and provide all necessary assistance related to laboratory specific equipment to investigating officer.
  • Responsible in maintaining Petrofac HSSE Policies, Life Saving Rules & Standards and perform assigned tasks and duties in accordance with instructions, safety rules/procedures, regulations and codes of practice.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS: 

  • Bachelor’s degree or relevant recognized diploma / vocational qualifications within Chemistry, Laboratory or Process areas.
  • Recognized Assessor qualification.
  • Recognized teaching / training qualification in chemistry and/or O&G industry, laboratory discipline.
  • Minimum 10 years' experience in related field and specialty with experience with International Major Gas Companies.
  • Minimum of 4 years previous experience of technical training delivery and competency assessment.
  • Previous experience of developing, reviewing, and upgrading training materials, competency criteria and role profiles.
  • Must have Authorised Gas Tester (AGT) certificate 
  • OPITO Certified H2S training certificate, is preferred.
  • Current knowledge of international best practice in the field of laboratory training.
  • Knowledge and understanding of safe system of work and CMMS work order management process related to Laboratory equipment.
  • Experience to work in Gas processing facilities and sites operating with acid gas (high H2S content).
  • Work experience of operating under GOST standards is preferred.
