JOB TITLE: LAB TECH

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Working under the direction of the Production Supervisor, samples and analyses various production and utility streams. Manages chemical injection and chemical stocks. Maintains records for Platform Auditors.
  • Sample, Analyse and report on routine oil, gas, water and utility streams. Compile Daily Laboratory Report.
  • Ensure sound environmental management and seek opportunities for improvement in line with the requirements of ISO14001.
  • Maintain and calibrate Laboratory Equipment, keep records where applicable i.e. Oil-in-Water calibration graphs. Manage Laboratory consumables.
  • Ensure correct dosage of chemicals to relevant streams to minimise wastage and maximise production. Liaise with Chemical Management team on chemical issues.
  • Maintain accurate and auditable records of all production chemical usage and stocks. Liaise with Onshore Environmental Advisor on Chemical Permit issues.
  • Assist with Platform Auditors where required.
  • Manage microbiological control on the Platform and suggest improvements where practicable.
  • Ensure Platform Substance Handling Sheets are updated with regard to production chemicals.
  • Identify actions required to avert the possibility of a major incident occurring due to the process or external environment.
  • Identify and report to the Control Room any plant / equipment malfunction that could deteriorate into a major incident.
  • Operate as part of a team who are responsible for the continuous processing of oil & gas under the direction of the Lead Production & Control Room Operators. 
  • Gathers and collects data / logs for the Process and Utility equipment. Identifies actions to be taken to minimise equipment and machinery failure.
  • Assist Production Operators where required.
  • Recover plant from any emergency shutdown and minimise loss of production, whilst adhering to operating procedures.
  • Train Production Operators in basic laboratory duties as required.
  • Report any export specification deviations to the Production Supervisor.
  • Operate in a safe and efficient manner ensuring that all operations are carried out within the terms of the Permit to Work and local relevant standing orders.
  • Handles hazardous materials safely and implements operating procedures.
  • Identify and respond to plant operating outside normal parameters and carry out the necessary action to correct the abnormality. Report actions to the control room.
  • Effectively communicate each operation to the shift team.

  • SAFETY:
  • To be familiar with and have an understanding of the Company Health, Safety and Environmental Policies
  • TECHNICAL INTEGRITY:
  • Ability to deploy engineering & operational standards/ procedures that meet both regulatory and safety standards.
  • Ability to identify, investigate, audit and control technical change (within limit of discipline knowledge)

  • Ability to undertake work to meet acceptance criteria with respect to safety, technical integrity.
  • COMMUNICATION:
  • Clear, fluent and expressive use of verbal and written language to convey information and ideas.
    Requirement to raise any non conformance to supervisor in timely fashion

  • Awareness of project activities.
  • Input into project t/ asset plans in timely fashion as required.
  • TEAMWORK/LEADERSHIP:
  • Ability to provide guidance and motivation to co-workers.
