Petrofac is seeking a Maintenance Engineer Offshore Cranes and Lifting Appliances – Contractor for 6 months based in Aberdeen, UK.
The role is outside IR35 and we invite Limited Companies to engage.

JOB TITLE: MAINTENANCE ENGINEER OFFSHORE CRANES AND LIFTING APPLIANCES - CONTRACTOR (6 -Month Contract)
Scope of Services:
This scope of services defines the independent consultancy services to be delivered by the Contractor. The Maintenance Engineering Consultant shall deliver independent, specialist services to support the integrity, performance, and compliance of offshore cranes and associated lifting appliances on Client-designated offshore asset. The Contractor is fully responsible for determining the manner and means of performing the services and is not subject to the supervision, direction, or control of the Client. Any additional services outside the scope detailed below will require mutual agreement and formalisation through a written contract variation.
Summary of Services:
The Consultant shall provide professional engineering services focused on the assurance, maintenance, and operational readiness of offshore cranes and lifting appliances. Services will be delivered as per the agreed deliverables and timelines, ensuring alignment with applicable safety and operational regulations. While coordination with the Client and third parties will be required, the Consultant will determine the method and sequencing of the work to achieve desired outcomes.
Service Scope Includes:
Advising on inspection and certification strategies for cranes and lifting appliances, in line with regulatory and Client standards.
Engaging with third-party vendors and inspection bodies as an independent technical authority.
Supporting risk assessments, HAZOP/HAZID reviews, and offshore readiness processes as a technical specialist.
Reviewing technical documentation and inspection reports submitted by subcontractors and vendors.
Participating in planning sessions, offshore surveys, and functional testing as per project requirements.
Offering independent input into maintenance strategies, technical responses, and vendor evaluations.
Deliverables:
Services should be provided to enable production of the following deliverables where required as part of project specific works, specific clients and durations will be called off as part of the purchase order.
- Provision of workpacks, technical reports, and inspection documentation to support lifting equipment integrity and compliance.
- Development and submission of maintenance planning documentation (e.g. job cards, CTRs, and campaign schedules).
- Preparation and review of procurement requisitions, equipment specifications, and vendor scopes.
- Compilation of condition assessments and spares lists, including updates to asset registers and associated data.
- Delivery of site survey reports, functional test witness documentation, and change control records.
- Progress and cost-tracking reports related to lifting equipment activities.
- The Consultant operates as an independent supplier of services and is not subject to direction, supervision, or control by the Client beyond what is necessary to ensure compliance with legal and contractual obligations.
- The Consultant is responsible for determining how and when to deliver the services within the framework of the agreed scope and deadlines.
