JOB TITLE: RIGGING / LIFTING CRANE SME

 

24 months fixed term contract based in Ghana

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • The Subject Matter Expert (SME) is responsible for ensuring the safe and efficient management of all cranes and lifting operations on the installation. This includes maintaining the integrity of installed equipment and ensuring full compliance with regulatory requirements, industry standards, company procedures, and relevant legislation. The SME oversees all aspects of crane, deck, and lifting operations, ensuring adherence to best practices while upholding safety and operational efficiency.
  • SME defines the required maintenance activities for all fixed cranes and lifting equipment.
  • Acts as the accountable person for lifting activities and serves as the equipment class owner for all lifting equipment on specific offshore assets; crane operations, forklift usage, rigging and lifting.
  • Manages 3rd party contracts for the provision of lifting services and / or procurement of lifting equipment.
  • Ensures accuracy of work orders and spare parts within CMMS.
  • Provide guidance to procurement activities, ensuring that materials purchased are compliant and fit for purpose; engaging with OEM as required.
  • Incorporate findings of work and/or incidents into the CMMS to enhance crane reliability, safety and reduce maintenance costs.
  • Acts as the owner of the maintenance strategies related to cranes, scaffold, rigging and lifting; adjusting the preventative maintenance routines in the CMMS and the written scheme of examination as required.
  • Focal Point for providing technical support and oversite to the Offshore Lifting Technical Authority (OLTA) and Site Lifting Focal Point (SLFP) roles.
  • Responsible for providing lifting assurance through technical support and appropriate auditing for compliance against relevant standards when applicable: ABS, API RP 2D, LOLER, ISO etc.
  • Liaises with OIM and responsible authorities in ensuring that all lifting operations comply with acceptable international standards for the operation of the FPSO.
  • Coordinates with other departments to develop, implement, and execute safe lifting operations.
  • Provide technical guidance and support to the onshore and offshore Rigging teams to ensure all lifting operations are implemented safely and efficiently and in accordance with applicable industry standards.
  • Act as the expert in by providing technical input on all commercial tenders and evaluations for lifting related contracts and service provision.
  • Liaise with third party companies to review lift plans, personnel competencies and provide support to lifting operations.
  • Be the focal point for reviewing engineering and technical methodology and calculations for complex lifts and engineered scaffoldings.
  • Participate in incident investigation related to rigging, lifting and handling.
  • Provide guidance on certification and examination requirements for existing and newly procured lifting equipment.
  • Define and assign the maintenance and inspection strategy for all Lifting Equipment
  • Develops the policies and procedures on rigging, lifting and crane operations while continuously seeking areas of improvement for daily operations on the asset.
  • Draft standards of operations that commit to incident free operations.
  • Strictly adheres to health and safety requirements in SOP execution.
  • Build effective working relationships with other departments (and provide inter-asset/departmental support) on all relevant operations pertaining to the area of expertise.
  • Prepare reports on all crane and lifting incidents, thoroughly analyzing root causes to prevent recurrence.
  • Reports on all identified defects in practices, equipment, tools, to the appropriate authorities
  • Inspect and study records of routine operations - Cranes Check List etc. for informed future.

 

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:

  • BSc. / B. Tech in any engineering field
  • Few years’ of experience within rigging and lifting activities specific to offshore and onshore construction, maintenance, and operations activities.
  • Experience of SME role and acting as appointed person responsible for signing off LOLER lift plans including complex lifts.
  • A Valid Competent Person Qualification issued by a recognized industry body.

  • BOSIET/Approved Offshore Medical/MIST
