JOB TITLE: Senior Electrical Engineer (Fixed-Term Contract)
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Reliability & Integrity Management
Accountable for the integrity, reliability, availability, and performance of all electrical systems and equipment across assigned assets to ensure production delivery targets achieved/sustained.
Develop, implement, and continuously optimize preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance strategies based on reliability-centred maintenance (RCM) principles and condition monitoring analysis.
Monitor and drive compliance to maintenance KPIs aligned with Process Safety Management (PSM) requirements.
Assist in Root Cause Analysis (RCA) investigations for electrical & instrument control (if required) system failures and implement sustainable corrective and preventive actions.
Ensure effective lifecycle management of critical electrical assets including switchgear, generators, transformers, motors, UPS systems, and power management systems.
Drive asset integrity assurance through periodic performance reviews, equipment health assessment, and risk-based prioritization.
2. Safety Critical Elements (SCE) Governance
Ensure all electrical-related Safety Critical Elements (SCEs) are maintained, verified, and compliant with approved performance standards.
Conduct and review SCE verification activities within mandated intervals.
Provide technical input to mitigate Major Accident Hazards (MAH) through effective electrical system integrity control.
Participate actively in HAZOP, HAZID, HSE Case reviews and other safety engineering studies.
Periodically reviewing facility’s Performance Standard (PS) and Equipment Reliability Strategy (ERS) to ensure the documents reflect to SCE list equipment at site.
3. Maintenance & Operational Support
Provide onshore technical support for planning, prioritization, and execution of preventive and corrective maintenance.
Support offshore teams in complex fault diagnosis, troubleshooting, and system recovery.
Provide experiences & technical support for instrument department in managing / tackling instrument & controls equipment system issues from time to time / when necessary.
Provide technical oversight during planned shutdowns, turnarounds, and critical maintenance campaigns.
Ensure spare parts strategy is optimized, especially for safety-critical and production-critical equipment.
Collaborate and communicate with inter department representative / engineers for day-to-day operation & maintenance issues & problem solving.
4. Modification, MOC & Project Engineering
Participate/lead in the Management of Change (MOC) preparation process for electrical modifications, ensuring technical, operational, safety, and business impacts are fully assessed.
Review engineering studies related to system upgrades, retrofits, and performance improvement initiatives.
Participate in Factory Acceptance Test (FAT) and Site Acceptance Test (SAT) for new installations, modifications, and upgrades.
Manage contractors and vendors through engineering design, fabrication, execution, offshore implementation, and project close-out.
Ensure documentation, drawings, and technical records are updated following modifications.
5. Vendor & Stakeholder Management
Oversee onshore vendor activities, equipment repair, testing and liaison with Kemaman Supply Base (KSB) for material delivery to offshore production facilities.
Coordinate logistics and material delivery to offshore facilities in collaboration with supply base teams.
Liaise with third-party engineering consultants and service providers to ensure engineering deliverables meet operational and integrity standards.
Support budgeting processes including Petronas Work Plan & Budget (WPB), OPEX/CAPEX planning, forecast, reforecast, accruals, and VOWD submissions in line with corporate WPB requirements.
6. Continuous Improvement & Technology Advancement
Propose and evaluate proven technologies to enhance electrical system reliability, maintainability, and safety performance.
Drive improvement initiatives to optimize asset uptime and reduce repeat failures.
Integrate best-practice maintenance strategies and condition-based monitoring techniques.
ESSENSIAL QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS
Minimum twelve (12) years working experience in Oil & Gas industry, preferably in the Upstream sector (Offshore Facilities – CPP/WHP/MOPU/FPSO/FSO).
A m Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree holder in Engineering preferably Electrical - Power / Electrical – Electronic from a recognized university.
Registered with Board of Engineer Malaysia (BEM).
Offshore Medical and Survival (BOSEIT) certificates.
Preferred technical knowledge and experience:
In-depth knowledge of electrical safety protocols and relevant rules and regulations.
Well experience with Operation & Maintenance of offshore facilities platform / FPSO / MOP.
Proficiency in Hazardous area classification and Ex equipment selection.
Maintenance strategies for electrical systems and equipment, focusing on predictive, preventive, and corrective maintenance.
Experience in modification and retrofit on electrical equipment e.g., LV/MV Switchboard
Motor Retrofit, overhaul, rewinding, service.
Participate in planned shutdowns or turnarounds for FPSO / fixed platform.
Well verse & proficient in interpreting Single Line Diagrams & Schematics, including experience in fault finding & troubleshooting.
Electrical power generation systems including Emergency Diesel Generators (EDG).
Generator synchronization, HV/LV switching, and power management systems.
Familiar with operation & maintenance of Electrical distribution equipment, Power Management System (PMS), Electrical Control System (ECS), distribution Transformers, Switchgears, Motor Control Centre (MCC) & AC/DC UPS including batteries.
Motors (LV, HV, submersible) and motor drives (DOL, Star-Delta, Soft Starter, VFD, etc).
Electrical system design interpretation (Single Line Diagrams, schematics) and advanced troubleshooting.
Cable Selection & Application
Earthing, bonding, and lightning protection (fixed and floating facilities).
Electrical equipment installation, modification, and retrofit projects.
Maintenance and overhaul of motors including rewinding and refurbishment.
Cable selection and application.
Familiar & experience with handling Instrument & Control equipment & systems (ICSS/DCS/SIS/FGS) is an added advantage.
Proficient in interpreting electrical SLD, Schematic Diagram, Wiring Diagram, Block Diagram and familiar with P&ID drawing, ICSS architecture drawing,
Familiar with facilities Cause & Effect drawing and ESD hierarchy / philosophy.
Experiences in Instrument & Control equipment/devices fault finding & troubleshooting is an extra value added.
Experience and familiar with Performance Standards (PS), ERS, SCE, MAH, PSM, & HSE compliance.
Familiar and involved in offshore facilities major audits including OSRMS, DDA & IOAIA.
Familiarity with procurement processes, contract establishment, and maintenance management systems (ORACLE/FUSION/SAP/CMMS).
