JOB TITLE: SENIOR ELECTRICAL & INSTRUMENTATION ENGINEER
This post is based onshore on a residential basis in Malabo, Equatorial Guinea.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Providing senior technical authority and leadership for all Electrical, Instrumentation, and Control (E&I) systems GEPetrol’s assets within Block B in Equatorial Guinea. Accountable for safeguarding the integrity, reliability, availability, and maintainability of E&I equipment, supporting safe and efficient operations, and delivering long-term improvement strategies. Responsible for coaching and developing engineers and national staff to strengthen organisational capability.
· The Senior Electrical & Instrumentation Engineer plays a critical role in ensuring that asset safety and production performance targets are achieved by providing expert leadership in the design, operation, and maintenance of electrical, instrumentation, and control systems. Operating on a residential basis in Malabo, the role combines operational support with project delivery responsibilities, ensuring compliance with statutory, industry, and company requirements. The position also owns relevant maintenance strategies, oversees vendor performance, and ensures robust engineering input.
· Act as senior technical point of contact for all electrical, instrumentation, and control systems, supporting both onshore and offshore operations.
· Provide day-to-day troubleshooting and technical support for complex E&I issues, ensuring safe and efficient resolution.
· Develop, integrate, and review maintenance strategies for critical E&I equipment, ensuring compliance with statutory, OEM, and company requirements.
· Oversee performance monitoring, trend analysis, and reliability improvement initiatives for E&I systems.
· Ensure electrical and instrumentation equipment in hazardous areas is maintained in accordance with IEC/BS EN 60079 and other applicable standards.
· Lead and manage vendor activities, contracts, and performance for E&I services, materials, and spares.
· Ensure safe and compliant electrical operations, including LV/HV switching and protective device management.
· Provide input to and management of OPEX and CAPEX budgets for E&I systems.
· Contribute to project delivery by reviewing designs, specifications, and contractor deliverables for fitness-for-purpose.
· Drive compliance with asset Verification Schemes, and remedial action close-out.
· Support and lead Root Cause Investigations for E&I equipment failures, ensuring effective corrective actions are implemented.
· Maintain and update integrity databases, maintenance management systems, and E&I registers.
· Stay abreast of emerging standards, regulations, and cyber security requirements for control systems.
· Conduct offshore visits as required to ensure strong operational engagement and oversight.
· Mentor and coach junior engineers and national staff, fostering technical competence and career development.
ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:
· Degree in Electrical, Instrumentation, or Control Engineering (or equivalent discipline).
· Chartered Engineer status with a recognised professional engineering institution preferred.
· In-depth knowledge of electrical distribution, instrumentation, control, and safety systems in Oil & Gas facilities.
· Strong familiarity with international standards and codes relating to electrical and instrumentation equipment in hazardous areas.
· Valid offshore medical and survival certification (advantageous).
· Proven leadership and ability to act as a senior technical focal point in Electrical, Instrumentation and/or Control Engineering.
· Strong leadership, influencing, and communication skills with the ability to engage across multidisciplinary teams.
· Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills, with the ability to resolve complex technical issues under pressure.
· Capable in mentoring & developing engineers & national staff.
· Proficiency in maintenance management systems, performance standards, and reliability tools.
· Commercial awareness and ability to manage vendor contracts, budgets, and performance.
· Strong focus on safety, integrity, and continuous improvement.
· Minimum years of experience in the O&G industry, with extensive exposure to both operations support and project delivery in E&I systems.
· Significant experience with electrical distribution (LV/HV), instrumentation, metering, and control systems.
· Proven track record in reliability improvement, troubleshooting, and integrity management of E&I equipment.
· Experience in managing vendor performance, contracts, and budgets.
· Previous experience in leading cross-discipline engineering initiatives and project scopes.
· International or remote location experience with proven adaptability to diverse cultural environments.
· Demonstrated success in coaching and mentoring less experienced engineers and technicians.
