JOB TITLE: Senior Mechanical Engineer

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

·         Providing senior-level mechanical engineering leadership and expertise to ensure the integrity, reliability, availability, and maintainability of all mechanical static and rotating equipment across GEPetrol’s assets within Block B in Equatorial Guinea.

·         Accountable for supporting operations, leading project-related scopes, managing vendor performance, and embedding best practices in maintenance and asset integrity management.

·         The Senior Mechanical Engineer is a key technical focal point responsible for safeguarding asset integrity and ensuring production performance through expert support of all mechanical systems.

·         Operating on a residential basis in Malabo, the role provides leadership in defining and executing short-, medium-, and long-term strategies for equipment maintenance, reliability, and lifecycle management.

·         The position also has ownership of budgets related to mechanical systems, supports project delivery, and plays a pivotal role in coaching and mentoring engineers and national staff to strengthen technical capability within the organisation.

·         Provide senior technical expertise in mechanical and rotating equipment engineering to support safe, reliable, and efficient operations.

·         Lead troubleshooting, root cause investigations, and reliability improvements for complex equipment failures or performance issues.

·         Define, integrate, and oversee maintenance strategies for critical equipment, ensuring compliance with statutory and vendor requirements.

·         Act as the focal point and asset authority for all mechanical engineering matters.

·         Manage and provide oversight of vendor activities, materials, spares, and service contracts to ensure value and compliance with agreed deliverables.

·         Monitor equipment performance trends and proactively recommend interventions to optimise reliability and availability.

·         Support the planning and execution of both planned and corrective maintenance, ensuring alignment with operational priorities.

·         Contribute to project delivery by reviewing and approving mechanical engineering deliverables, ensuring designs are fit-for-purpose and aligned with standards.

·         Ensure all activities are carried out in compliance with HSE legislation and company safety management systems.

·         Prepare, manage, and control OPEX budgets related to mechanical systems.

·         Conduct offshore visits to ensure effective support and close engagement with operational teams.

·         Mentor, coach, and develop junior engineers and national staff, promoting knowledge transfer and professional development to build internal capability

·         ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:

·         Degree in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent discipline).

·         Chartered Engineer status with a recognised professional institution (preferred).

·         Strong technical knowledge of static and rotating equipment design, maintenance, and reliability engineering practices.

·         Familiarity with condition monitoring, predictive maintenance techniques, and integrity management processes.

·         Knowledge of relevant industry standards, statutory legislation, and offshore regulations.

·         Valid offshore medical and survival certification (advantageous)

·         Proven leadership and ability to act as a senior technical focal point in Mechanical Engineering.

·         Strong leadership, influencing, and decision-making skills with the ability to operate effectively in a multidisciplinary environment.

·         Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting capabilities under time and operational pressures.

·         Demonstrated ability to mentor, coach, and develop junior engineers and national staff.

·         Strong commercial awareness with the ability to manage vendor performance and OPEX budgets.

·         Clear and effective communication skills, able to engage with senior management, contractors, and regulators.

·         Strong focus on safety, reliability, and continuous improvement

·         Maximum years’ experience in the Oil & Gas industry, with extensive experience in mechanical and rotating equipment engineering.

·         Significant exposure to both operations support and project delivery in offshore and onshore environments.

·         Proven track record in reliability improvement, troubleshooting, and integrity management of mechanical systems.

·         Experience in managing vendor contracts, budgets, and performance monitoring.

·         Demonstrated success in leading cross-functional engineering initiatives and driving performance improvements.

·         Previous international or remote location experience with ability to adapt to diverse cultural environments.

·         Established experience in coaching and developing less experienced engineers and technicians.
