JOB TITLE: Senior Petroleum Engineer
Provide technical leadership and assurance across the Uwainat Project (subsurface-related part). Lead and control petroleum engineering activities across planning and execution of well monitoring, completion, workover, rigless operations, well evaluation and surveillance to ensure safe, efficient delivery of production objectives and robust reservoir management. Provide technical governance on well design and operations, supervise contractor performance, coordinate with drilling, geology, and operations, and ensure all deliverables comply with Company standards. Prepare and present detailed technical documents for various regular meetings and liaise with Government (ADNOC/QatarEnergy) and Shareholder representatives on subsurface and drilling engineering matters as required. Contribute to FDP preparation and Gate reviews, and act as a focal point for well integrity and operational excellence.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Well Design & Programs
· Responsible for preparing the Basis of Well Design (BOD), completion designs, testing plans, and operational procedures.
· Prepare a drilling strategy and program that addresses prevailing uncertainties and optimizes performance, while coordinating with Drilling, Geology, and Reservoir Engineering teams to ensure alignment.
· Manage the selection of testing equipment and methods, and supervise well testing and sampling activities to ensure high-quality data and compliance with approved programs.
Well Monitoring & Control
· Conduct a thorough review and ensure a strategy for well monitoring, along with a response plan for new wells, and incorporate these into the well design, testing plans and operational procedures.
· Oversee selection of testing equipment and methods.
· Supervise well testing and completion activities to ensure quality data and adherence to approved programs.
Rigless Operations & Well Services
· Direct preparation and supervision of rigless activities (BHP surveys, PLT, wireline, DHSV replacement, well interventions) to ensure safe and cost-effective execution.
· Select service contractors and maintain operational excellence.
· Ensure well integrity monitoring and compliance through WIMS and proactive risk mitigation.
Production Monitoring & Optimization
· Monitor and analyze well and field production performance to identify bottlenecks, under-performing wells, and optimization opportunities.
· Design and implement production optimization strategies, including well interventions, artificial lift improvements, and operational parameter adjustments.
· Evaluate production trends using surveillance data, analytical tools, and reservoir models to ensure timely and accurate performance assessment.
· Recommend corrective actions and contribute to production system improvements aligned with field development objectives.
Assist Development Planning
· Support the development and implementation of comprehensive field development plans, including well performance, placement, design, drilling strategies, drilling program, monitoring strategies, and production optimization.
· Collaborate closely with geologists, geophysicists, drilling engineers, and project engineers to ensure alignment and consistency. Prepare, review, and present technical documents and reports for regular meetings to facilitate timely approvals and stakeholder alignment.
· Assist in preparing production forecasts and reserves evaluations using dynamic reservoir simulation, ensuring timely updates in response to project schedule or design changes. Provide technical support for production optimization initiatives aimed at maximizing hydrocarbon recovery.
· Prepare Field Development Plans (FDP) and support gate reviews.
Budgeting & Planning
· Carry out other similar or related duties such as preparing a vigilant budget estimates and submits to supervisor for approval, ensuring that all budgets are adhered to and providing justifications for variances to budget provisions, keeping abreast of development in reservoir and petroleum engineering information and techniques to improve the Section's efficiency, directing the preparation and reviewing various reports such as approval for drilling, testing programmes, well completion, monthly operations and monthly production/injection allocation reports, etc.
Policies, Systems, Processes and Procedures
· Recommend improvements to function procedure; support the development, implementation and regular review of the production management & maintenance policies, procedures, and systems to ensure consistent & systematic application of best practices and to improve operational performance.
· Communicate the approved operational procedures and instructions to subordinates and monitor their adherence so that work is carried out in a controlled manner.
Relationship Management
· Develop and maintain effective business relationships with all relevant internal functions & external entities (such government authorities, service providers, contractors etc) with highest standards of business ethics, whilst promptly attending to all critical issues in-order to ensure the services required by the organisation are delivered in the most effective manner.
Quality, Health, Safety, & Environment
· Ensure compliance to all relevant quality, health, safety and environmental management policies, procedures and controls across the operations engineering section to guarantee employee safety, legislative compliance, delivery of high-quality products/service and a responsible environmental attitude.
· Conduct effective accident investigation and follow-up in accord with statutory requirements and to ascertain the non – occurrences of the same incidents.
· Participate in any required HSE risk assessment.
Reports
· Supervise the preparation of timely and accurate functional statements and report of the operation plants section to meet Bunduq and function requirements, policies and standards.
· Prepare periodical and progress reports to keep management informed about the progress of various initiatives and to facilitate decision making.
· Ensure timely logging of all operational/maintenance activities as per set standards to facilitate availability of historical data for future referencing purposes.
Continuous Improvement
· Provide inputs and suggestions for the continuous improvement of BUNDUQ’s production operation practices, systems, and processes considering global best practices, international standards to improve efficiency & cost effectiveness and productivity standards.
· Initiate and participate in technical studies and engineering works and co-ordinate the maintenance activities and report to the Maintenance/Engineering Senior Lead on such matters.
ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS
Required: Bachelor’s degree in Petroleum Engineering, Reservoir Engineering or equivalent
Preferred: Master’s degree or PhD in Petroleum Engineering, Reservoir Engineering or equivalent
Required: 10 years’ experience in subsurface engineering in the oil & gas industry including at least 8 years’ experience of reservoir management, development, simulation, well testing/completion/workover, surveillance, and integrity.
